Ecommerce sales see double digit growth
Online sales are on their way up and no one is going to stop it. Most importantly in the growth of online stores is the percentage of these sales coming from mobile devices.
Ecommerce has been around for some time now. There are a number of people who have been incredibly successful – such as Amazon and others. At one time shoppers crowded department stores, and then Big Box stores (still a success). However, it appears that online sales are on their way up and no one is going to stop it. Most importantly in the growth of online stores is the fact that a huge percentage of these sales come from mobile devices.
There are some obvious thoughts about ecommerce. At one time, people thought that this was going to be an inexpensive way out of having to setup a bricks and mortar store and that they would make millions by simply putting some products up on the internet. Nothing could be further from the truth. If it’s cheap – it won’t work. If you aren’t willing to work at it as hard as you would in a bricks and mortar operation, then give up now… it will never pay. Ecommerce is the way – but it is not for the faint of heart. You need to work it every bit as hard if not harder than traditional means, but the benefits will be incredible.
Mobile, mobile, mobile… it’s so important to think Mobile before anything else. It’s the way of the future. Our kids today do everything from their portable devices (notably mobile phones). At least until something else replaces that technology – we need to work it to the bone.
Site Search is so important. Amazon has spent millions and millions of dollars on effective site search tools. If you want a strong conversion rate on your site (i.e. making the sale), then you have to be sure that your search tools are the best, so that the buyers can find what they want easily and quickly.
Programming and hosting are paramount. It’s important to have the cleanest code possible. Your hosting environment needs to be robust. The fact is that if people have to wait for products to appear, they’ll just leave your site and go to someone else.
A marketing budget for your store needs to be set from the beginning. Let’s face it, Google has changed its rules and displays and it obviously favours those who take out ad words. Organic searches are still there but most often not on the first page. AdWords and various other means of digital marketing are paramount to the success of your store. A note about ad words… it’s useless to stab in the dark with this service. You will simply waste your money. Google will tell you that you need to use an ad words professional. What you pay the professional will save you a fortune and inevitable make you a bundle.
Dunham Web is looking for entrepreneurs who are interested in making money. That may mean finding investors (maybe not large – but someone who will help – unless you have the funds to set this up), it will be hard work until you can afford a staff that will work with you. Putting up an effective, accessible and technologically advanced ecommerce site with well-priced products and excellent marketing can do nothing but make you money.
