What’s Google done with my search results!?
The internet keeps changing, and Google is one of those driving the change. Here are two recent changes you should be aware of.
The Internet keeps changing, and Google is one of those driving the change. Here are two recent changes you should be aware of:
Google+ Local
Google has started to integrate Google+ information into the local search results – the results that appear near the top of the initial results page that are linked to a map. It’s called ‘Google+ Local’. Google+ is Google’s version of social networking, and until now we haven’t been sold on the need to maintain yet another social networking presence. Google plans to integrate Google+ into their Google Local Search results. So far, the only integration is visual – the local search page now says Google+, but nothing from a Google+ account appears. In fact, it’s the opposite; photos and reviews from the Local Search page are now appearing on the Google+ page. What to do? Make the most of your Local Search page by posting a few photographs of your work or service, and getting customers to post reviews. It’s a great way to make the most out of this ‘free advertising’.
Organic / Local Search Results
Google is also collapsing its search results. What does that mean to you? It means that if you already show up in the local search results, you may not show up again on the first page of the organic listings. This change has us scratching our heads a little because it appears to punish those who have worked hard to show up on that first page. It certainly does point to the growing importance of the local search results, especially since more and more people are searching for products and services in their local area.
