SSD – Solid State Drives are cool!

If you are interested in speeding up your computer, a Solid State Drive (SSD) will make a huge difference.

We’ve installed a few SSD Solid State Hard Drives in our computers now. I have one on my desktop and on my laptop. It takes about 20 seconds from the time I turn on my switch in the morning until the computer is booted up. Wow…it’s fast! Programs of course also run much more quickly.

Solid State Drives (SSD) are not as large as the current Hard Drives and they are significantly more expensive. The prices are constantly falling though, and in fact there always seem to be affordable “specials” these days. No one is too sure about the reliablility as they are very new, but they have no moving parts (unlike standard Hard Drives) – so that should help with regard to their longevity.
