Those who know me well will tell you that as well as being an optimist I can also be quite a sceptic – and a stubborn one at that. Once I get an idea in my head you often need a sledgehamer (or the logical equivalent of one) to knock it out of me. Case in point – Google AdWords.
I used to think that Adwords, or any advertising on the Internet, was a waste of money – a fast way to fill Google’s pockets while emptying your own. Now I know otherwise.
Google AdWords work. They bring people to your website, and you only pay when people click. They help you reach markets you wouldn’t reach through a regular organic search. Adwords are especially helpful in two situations:
- Targetting a specific geographic market other than where your place of business is located
- Start-up businesses with new websites
In both of these situations it’s likely that a competitor’s site will rank higher than your own. An adwords campaign can be a very effective way to redirect the traffic to your site.
